Rhinoplasty , also called plastic surgery of the nose or a "nose job," is a very popular procedure that can make profound differences not only in the balance of facial features, but also in a person’s self-esteem. The aesthetic improvements that a rhinoplasty surgeon can make include decreasing or increasing the size of the nose, altering the tip or bridge of the nose, and narrowing or changing the shape of the nostrils.

Who is the best candidate for Rhinoplasty?

The goals of a Rhinoplasty are to obtain a pleasing aesthetic result and to have a satisfied patient.
The best candidates for Rhinoplasty are people who are looking for improvement, not perfection in the way they look. If you are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in your expectation, you may be a good candidate.

Rhinoplasty can be performed also to correct breathing problems.
Age may also play a role as many surgeons prefer not to operate before adolescent.

The procedures

The surgery will take an hour or two. In the most of cases we do all the incisions from inside the nose with no outside scars. We separate the skin from the under lying frame work of the nose and then we sculpt the nose according to the desired shape and pre operative discussion with the patient.
When the surgery is complete a nasal pack will be lifted inside the nostrils for few hours, and a nasal splint will be applied to maintain the new shape and reduce the edema and swelling.

What happens after surgery?

• stay in bed with head elevated
• Application of the ice packs will make you feel better and reduce the edema.
• Puffy face in the 1st 24hours with headache usually controlled with pain medication.
• There will be bruises and swelling around the eye reaches its maximum in 3 days then decrease gradually.
• Nasal pack will be removed usually after one day.
• There may be some bleeding for one or 2 days after surgery but will stop.
• The cast will be removed in 10 days; most of the swelling will disappear by this time.
• There will be some stiffness for several weeks.
• You may be able to go back to work after cast removed.
• Start mild exercise after 2 weeks.
• Sexual activities maybe preformed by the end of the 3rd week

Complications

• Complications after Rhinoplasty are rare and could be bleeding.
• Temporary nasal obstruction because of swelling and blood clots.
• In some rare cases where the nose is deviated, surgery deviation might not correct the nose 100% and there might be a possibility of a surgical revision
