The Section of Rheumatology is a subspecialty of internal medicine with full time Board Certified faculty physicians, The Rheumatology department offers a wide range of services to patients for diagnosis and treatment of joint, bone and connective tissue diseases. In addition, the department also offers diagnosis and treatment to patients with back pain and works closely with collegues in the Hopsital’s pain clinics to help patients devlop long-term pain management programmes.
There are over 200 types of rheumatic and arthritis disease with arthritis being the second most common cuase for time off work. Early diagnosis and treatment is therefore essential in ensuring that patients can control their disease.
The Rheumatology department accepts referrals from GP’s and also from tertiary sources for a range of conditions including:
- Rheumatoid, Inflammatory and Psoriatic Arthritis
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Spondylitis
- Fibromyalgia,
- Polymyalgia
- Gout,
- Temporal arthritis,
- Vasculitis,
- Sarcoidosis,
- Sjogren’s syndrome
